Kayak Tour Guides
Our guides are trained naturalist and experienced kayakers. They will teach you the art of paddling the sleek, stealth and safe vessels that will take you on a real adventure back into the last remaining undeveloped land that is the real Grand Strand. Our guided offer you a glimpse into the natural world through the history of the Native Americans who lived amongst the swamps and Barrier Islands of the coast. Allow us to show you a rare glimpse of the old days through a narrated tour that only Great Escapes Kayak Expeditions offers.
Beckett - Whether he was surfing in the coastal waters of the Carolinas or boating in the whitewater of the Blue Ridge Escarpment in upstate South Carolina, Beckett Hills grew up in the water. He was born in Myrtle Beach, S.C., but spent his early life in the forests of the upstate. Gifted his first whitewater kayak for his 7th birthday, Beckett began boating at this early age in the Wild & Scenic whitewater of the Chattooga River.
By age 20, Beckett was a spending time free from college to professionally raft guide on Class IV-V whitewater, and, at 21, became an ACA-certified whitewater kayaking instructor. After finishing a degree in Geological Sciences from Clemson University, Beckett worked for most of the last decade for Outward Bound throughout the West. Starting off by handling the logistics, he worked up to instructing/guiding on multi-week trips in the Pacific Northwest, leading students on whitewater and climbing expeditions among the volcanoes of the Cascades Mountain Range and spending winters in the deserts of Southern California, in Joshua Tree National Park, leading backpacking and rock climbing expeditions. Eventually becoming a trainer for rising Outward Bound staff, Beckett spent his last three years at Outward Bound as the Program Manager at the Oregon base camp.
Now, taking a break from adventure and returning home to pursue a Masters of Science in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., Beckett is looking forward to spending every spare moment out on the water with you, paddling through some of our state's most unique ecosystems and beautiful places. You will find that he is overjoyed at simply being outside, listening for birds, looking for signs of wild things, and trying to understand more about the natural settings we live among.
